INNOCENTIA CATTERY: ABOUT THE OWNERS
|
My name is Laura Hunt, and I founded Innocentia Cattery
in 1991.
I was born and raised in the suburbs of Detroit, Michigan. I studied for 11 years in the arts of ballet, tap, pointe, jazz,
Flamenco, and some ballroom dancing. I taught the dance arts for 17 years in Michigan, North Carolina, and in Berlin,
Germany. In Berlin, I had my own school and taught servicemen's children, embassy children, as well as the local nationals.
I worked for the German television channel ZDF, providing children for various programs.

I have a MA, plus 60 credits, in educational psychology from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. In 1999, I retired
from teaching in the Detroit Public School System. Most of the years were spent teaching first and second grades.
When I retired from teaching, I decided to expand my hobby of showing and breeding Tonkinese and British Shorthairs. I have
had a national Best of Color win, as well as regional winners.

My husband, Gary, and I are very proud of our work with the cats. It has given us great joy to not only raise these adorable
kittens, but to also provide happiness to so many new pet owners.
I share my home with Gary and our 4 kitty girls: Shylo, a platinum point female; One Love, a platinum point female; Angel,
a natural mink female; and the Jug, a champagne mink female. They are my personal pets. In addition, I have 2 adult children
who now reside in California.

This is my beloved husband, Gary. For the past 23 years, he has been my rock, my support, and my partner.
Sometimes, I am not quite sure whether Gary married me for me, or for my cats! But one thing is for sure, he sure does love
his family and his cats.
In high school, he was voted "Most Popular" in his senior year. He works as a licensed FCC technician in communication.

Gary and I are fortunate in that our skills compliment one another. He is in charge of more physical tasks such as cleaning,
supply ordering, medication, laundry, and supervision of mating. I, in turn, do more administrative type work, customer support,
genealogy, birthing, socialization, and airport runs to name a few. But, more often than not, we take over each others jobs as
necessary. It is not unusual for us to put in a 12 hour day or more. Raising kittens and taking care of the adults properly takes
time and devotion. We are proud of our cattery, which has been deemed a CFA Cattery of Excellence.
Innocentia Cattery was featured in a four page article about the Tonkinese breed in the publication PetWorld. It is Asia's
only magazine for all animals. (August 2001)

Innocentia Cattery was also featured in the book, "New Legacy of the Cat" by Chronicle Books. The pictures were taken by the
Japanese photographer Tetsu Yamazaki. The natural mink male on the page is currently one of the studs used by Innocentia Cattery.

In 1944, the popular murder/mystery movie "Laura," starring Gene Tierney, Dana Andrews, Clifton Webb and Vincent Price was
at the movie theaters. It was directed by Otto Preminger and was nominated for 5 Academy Awards.
My mother was a young girl of 16, and after seeing the movie, decided that her first born daughter would be named Laura.
Laura was a very successful, young, beautiful career woman who had an exquisite apartment, a country cottage, and lovely
furnishings.

In essence, she had it all, especially considering that World War II was ending, and our country was economically suffering.
It was her hope that her Laura would have it all, too.
After I had been married to Mr. Hunt for a number of years, the movie "Laura" came out on VHS. To my complete surprise, her
name was Laura Hunt in the movie. While I do not count my wealth by the number of possessions I have, I do feel I am most
wealthy by the number of good friends I have made while raising my kittens. To all of you, I give you a most heartfelt
"thank you."
Sincerely,
Laura A Hunt
